Kay Mayben Hood, a retired teacher, passed away November 15, 2016 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. She was 79 years old. Memorial Services are scheduled for Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa.

Kay Lanell Mayben Hood was born November 24, 1937 in Canyon, Texas, but grew up in Denver City, Texas. She played piano and clarinet, and was a drum majorette in the Denver City High School marching band. After graduation, Kay attended Texas Tech University, where she met and married the love of her life, Floyd Hood. They were married for 51 Years. Kay earned her Bachelor's Degree from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas and a Master's Degree from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. Over the years, Kay taught Elementary, Middle and High School grades, and everything from Spanish and History to pre-college Maths. Kay taught at Odessa Permian High School for 19 years and was Math Department Chair when she retired in 2002.Kay Hood never met a stranger, often stopping on the street to chat with whoever she saw. She especially enjoyed smiling and cooing at babies and toddlers. She is truly loved and respected by the many friends, family, colleagues and students she has known throughout her life. She will be dearly missed.Kay Hood is survived by a son, Michael Hood of Tyler, Texas, and daughters Jamie Warnock of Houston, Texas and Marcie Hood of Odessa, Texas; eleven grandchildren - Dameon Hood, Carrie Patterson, Chris Patterson, Zayn Berger, Adrian Hood, Julian Hood, Melissa Warnock, Michael Warnock, Lee Warnock, Joshua, Warnock, and Vanessa Parsons; two great-grandchildren - Savannah Bandy and Bridget Patterson; two sisters - Ollie Chandler of Amarillo, TX and Mariann Caines of Katy, TX; two brothers - Phillip Linn of Odessa, TX and Art Linn of Bakersfield, CA.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SPCA or a favorite charity of your choice.Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
